Suggestions on Best Email Pre-processing Filtering Tools

Postby JohnStephens » Thu Jun 22, 2006 1:13 pm

I would like anyone's thoughts on what they have found to be the best solution for culling/filtering data for email. Ideally, I would like to be able to queue up batches of pst or nsf files and possibly other email formats (e.g. 50-100 files at a time) and be able to run multiple filtering queries on the data before or during the metadata extraction. I would like to be able to load the filtered data into LAW or some other platform without altering the date last accessed metadata.

I have looked at some tools like Discovery Attendant and feel uncomfortable with that product from a computer forensic standpoint. Any ideas guys? I really appreciate any input.

Clearwell Culling

Postby SColloff » Mon May 26, 2008 1:35 pm

Hi John,

We recently added Clearwell to our arsenal of culling tools. As far as early case assessment and email filtering, I find it to be invaluable.

We can load 8-1o GB/hour for online review, and it lets you search by any number of criteria (keywords, conceptual phrases, discussion thread, domain name, etc).

We use it as a tool to take a first look at email, and use some broad strokes to cut out clearly irrelevant documents.

If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to reach out to me off line, or post back here.

Thanks
Shamir
