IPRO OCR Question

Postby LOST_tc » Thu Dec 22, 2005 2:20 pm

Our Legal Ops Support Team is new to using the IPRO Software Suite.
Great products! We are experiencing one problem with the OCR module...which I think is an IO error on my part. I have pdf documents that the OCR modules is not recognizing for searching when brought into a project. When I search for items that need to be redacted the software is not locating the information. If I search in the native pdf Adobe does locate the information. Any suggestions?

Real PDF?

Postby Larry Lieb » Fri Dec 23, 2005 9:24 am

I am not an IPRO user but a fan of the company nonetheless.

I have heard that many different applications can create Adobe PDFs with varying success.

I wonder if the PDF files in question were actually created by Adobe software or not. If not, could this be the cause of your troubles?

IPRO OCR & Searching Adobe Acrobat

Postby LOST_tc » Fri Dec 23, 2005 1:09 pm

Larry,
Thank you for the post.
The report is first downloaded from an Alchemy database which stores archived versions of reports for our litigation dept (i.e. "books & records" versions of reports). The tool normally produces a text file, but we use a print target function and print to the Adobe Writer to create an Adobe PDF file. If you use the Adobe search function in the PDF you can search and locate names and account numbers in that file. If you attempt to search the file once it is brought into the IPRO project and OCR'ed the search does not find the requested information.

Any ideas?

IPRO only finds and highlights hits when IPRO OCR has been run on the images (whether TIFF or PDF). So, even though you brought in already searchable PDFs, the text is not yet searchable until you OCR with IPRO itself, create an IPRO OCR LFP and that OCR LFP has been loaded into the project.

I hope this helps.
