After six months of trial... Yes, I am still alive!

Postby Rob_Rosenberg » Sat Dec 13, 2003 3:21 pm

Hello Everyone:

After a long long journey and being away from family and friends for a long time, I am finally back (sort of). I have spent the last six months on and off supporting a trial in Louisiana. For those of you who have done trials that long, you know how good it feels to finally get home. Despite my tendancy to walk around in circles trying to figure out what to do with myself, I am very happy to be home.

Okay, on to more important things. I realize that this forum (Trial Technology) never got a proper kick off. I would like to see some posts ranging from industry veterans to those just getting on their feet. Larry and Mark have designed a great site for our use so I think it would be proper to put it to its' maximum use.

One of the best ways to start off is to start a discussion on the advancements of 2003 and how they will impact 2004. This topic will be "Advancements of 2003". What do you think the biggest advancements of 2003 have been regarding Trial Technology?

I look forward to your responses and hope we can get this forum "Rock'n and Rollin'". Also, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season.

Most sincerely,
Rob Rosenberg[/b]

Trial Video - Next Day Turnaround

Postby Mark Lieb » Sun Dec 14, 2003 7:36 pm

How great it would be for a trial team to have yesterday's witness stand available for playback during today's cross.

Digital Video is half the answer.
Synch'ed transcripts is the other half.

Here's a future business service I think we will see -

Trial Video ASP -

Streaming audio and video of ongoing trials that various attorneys would like to follow back at the law firm.

Of course, this would be follow-up to the videos of the deps.

Hey guys-

Great to see a forum for Trial Support.

Mark -- Just wanted to let you know I recently ran into both of these situations. In a recent trial the Judge loved technology to the point that he did not have a court reporter. He had approximately 12 cameras in his courtroom that would shoot from various angles depending on who was speaking. The great thing about it is that he had each day's worth of trial testimony burned to CD for our use. Needless to say, closing was beautiful as I was able to create clips of actual testimony given during the trial. I loved it -- I just wish there were more courtrooms set up like this one. (He obviously did not have a synch'ed transcript to go along with the video but it still worked out very well)

Also, in this same courtroom, the judge had internet access (setup through Comcast -- broadband speed) so I had set up a web cam (with the judge's permission of course) during the trial for review by attorneys back at the office. They loved it!!

Something the judge is working on now which I think we will see a lot more of is testifying via a live video feed from another location (great for expert witnesses).
